Botanical glossary

Hemp
A variety of Cannabis sativa L. grown as an agricultural crop under rules that cap its THC content.
Cannabinoids
A family of compounds naturally present in Cannabis sativa L.
Extract
Concentrated plant material separated from the rest of the plant by pressing, soaking or distillation.
Full spectrum
A term used for extracts that retain the broader range of compounds present in the source material.
Broad spectrum
A term used for extracts from which particular compounds have been removed while others are retained.
Topical
Applied to the surface of the skin, rather than taken internally.
Carrier oil
A plant oil that forms the base of a topical product and carries the other ingredients.
INCI
The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients, the naming system used on cosmetic labels.
Botanical extract
An extract made from a plant, identified by the plant and the part used.
